និល គឺខៀវ

តាំងពីដើមមក ខ្ញុំឮគេថា និល ប្រែថា ខ្មៅ ហើយខ្ញុំក៏ជឿតាម។ ទើបតែពេលខ្ញុំស្រាវជ្រាវ និងចងក្រងពីពណ៌ខ្មែរហៅពីបុរាណ ទើបខ្ញុំប្រទះឃើញថា និលមិនមែនមានន័យថា​ពណ៌ខ្មៅទេ។

ខ្ញុំបានមើលវចនានុក្រមខ្មែរ, ក្នុងនោះពន្យល់ថា និល អានថា នីល (តែពេលនិយាយ ខ្មែរយើងនិយាយថា នឹល) មានន័យថា ខៀវ, ពាក្យសម្រាប់និយាយផ្សំជាមួយនឹងពាក្យខ្មៅ ឲ្យមានដំណើរប្លែក ៖ ខ្មៅនិល គឺខ្មៅខៀវ។ ឈ្មោះត្បូងព័ណ៌ខៀវ ៖ ត្បូងកណ្តៀង។

ដូច្នេះសរុបមក គេប្រាប់ខ្ញុំខុស។ ការត្រឹមត្រូវនោះគឺ និល មានន័យថា ខៀវ៕

Nil is blue

I was told that the word និល (Nil) meaned black color. When I was researching names of colors that Cambodian in the past used, I realized that it was wrong.

To make sure, I checked Khmer dictionary and it said:

Nil – blue. It is a word Cambodians used to combine with black color to make it sound special, Kmao Nil means black-blue. Also it is the name of a blue stone of Khmer (Kandeang).

In conclusion, I was told wrongly. Nil, the word about color that Khmer in the past used, is not black color, it is blue color.
